This is not a bash or a rant, this is just some serious introspection. While magnacut is amazing, I don’t believe it is the best choice for all purposes. For an EDC in damp environment, it is probably excellent. For a woods Or survival knife in wet environments it’s probably very good as well.
However, my EDC of choice wears 20CV For edge Retention and it is stainless enough for all of my needs. I still prefer some good 1095 or 3V for an outdoors knife for its toughness. If I need stainless ,CPM 154 or even better Elmax Suits my needs just fine. While I did buy a few knives in the new steel, I do not feel like I am limited with the old ones.
I wonder whether or not it is really all that and a bag of chips In the real world, or since it is hot, the manufactures are just giving people what they want, but they don’t really believe in it as much as they would say.
What do you guys think?

I made some knives for hunters, and in their opinion, Magnacut makes the difference. Dirt, mud and small stones on the hide of a boar or deer is pure abrasive and such steels shows their strength exactly in this small area of working tasks. Working only on wood cannot show the real advantage of the powder metallurgy steels. According to grinding, it eats belts like crazy and it takes like forever to finish. 4%Vanadium is hell for the knifemaker. I prefer to work with RWL34 and CPM154 in that matter.
